Islands in Macaé
The Sant’anna archipelago consists of the French island and South Isle. Considered an ecological sanctuary, it is a refuge for colonies of seagulls and various migratory birds from North America in the winter. Approximately 8 km (5 miles) from the Macaé shoreline, The Sant’ Anna archipelago has a navy base and an old light house, constructed in 1901. It can be visited with permission from the port authorities, i.e, coastguards. It is acessible via boat rental at the local fish market or at the Yatch Club, both being in the city.
